Dressing For Your Wedding Day!

This is it! The time you put your wedding dress on FOR REAL! New Beginnings Bridal Studio in Puyallup has walked this road a time or two, so here’s a few hints to make the process stress-free and easy.

Zipper Back Lace Wedding Dress
  • Make sure you allow plenty of time to get dressed.  As you know, this is different than slipping on that maxi dress and heading out to dinner!  There’s a bit of a process involved, so between make up, hair, shapewear and just plain being a tad nervous, the last thing you want is to be hurried. Trust us; EVERYONE will appreciate a light, relaxed, and care-free dressing room where memories are not only made but also enjoyed!

  • Step into your wedding gown with your shoes on. Your girls will gladly help you balance and pull the dress into place. They’d much rather do that than try fighting those finicky shoe buckles, and you won’t have to double over to fight them either!

  • If your wedding dress has multiple layers, make sure they are separated and “fluffed” before you do any zipping. It’s easier to straighten layers that are loosely hanging as oppose to stuck in a tight bodice. At the same time, tuck away or remove any hang loops or tags that have been forgotten.

  • For easy zipping, only zip up ½ or ¾ of the way, then fasten the top eye hook, then zip the remainder.  If the closure includes buttons that need looped, a crochet hook makes for quick and easy fastening.

  • Corset back closures are making a come-back, so here’s some instruction for the saint that gets this job!

    • Place one end of the corset tie through the top left loop taking it straight across and underneath the top right loop.  Make sure the tie length is even on both sides before continuing the process.

    • Now it’s just like lacing a shoe. Thread the right tie underneath  the second-down left hand loop, then the left tie underneath the second right hand down loop, and so on, all the way down the dress.  Don’t worry about tightening at this time… just get all the lacing in place.  If you start to run out of tie length, just tighten a little, starting at the top and working your way down.  That will give you enough tie length to finish the lacing.

    • Go back to the top and start tightening.  Pull ties at the 2nd loops outward, and continue all the way to the bottom of the dress.

    • The most important thing to remember is to make sure the laces are lying flat, not twisted.  It may be easiest to have one person flatten the laces while another tightens.  You won’t need those long laces any longer, so just cut to about 18 inches, tuck them inside the dress between the bottom two corset loops and you are done!
